Shutter island opening sequence
Firstly there is the over the shoulder view which depics and old black abandoned mental asylum this particular scene brings to sight a multitude of dark and dull colours this suggests a frightfully creepy vibe whilst the detectives passing by in the car monitored by the police. Being abandoned is then suggest the loneliness and silencee amongst the island.
Another use of a camera shot is extreme longshot of the island this helps display how large and a huge this place really is. It also suggests to the audience that it could be incredibly lonely to work there this poses a stereotypical view on somewhere that seems abandoned by almost all of the human race.
The music used in this clip is very dark and mysterious toned which gives the whole atmosphere sinister approach. The music is high-pitched and almost threatening it gives the audience the sense of tension as it is something frightening is about to happen. As soon as the car approaches the big gates of the large facility the music then gets quicker and louder to be more tents shown that there is something un settling about the whole place.
There is a lengthy process of digetic sound used at the start of the clip. This is the noise of the seagulls on the drowning sounds of the sea waves crashing against the other waves. This suggests to the audience how lonely is that any people can't really be heard on this island.
The location used in this clip is an almost deserted island where only the people that work there are the police as well as this the only other people that are there are mentally ill and detectives. The island is filled with large tall rocks and over the growth of green scenery surrounded by water all the way around this suggests a lonely and creepy atmosphere in the way that know one is able to leave the island once they are there.
The costume is used within this clip on very stereotypical as the detectives are dressed in long coats with hats on their heads. The police are in stereotypical uniforms that was set for the particular part in time as modern please don't wear the same uniforms. This has been applied so the audience to gain a backward spiral into the past and how people dressed.
During the clip there is a long sequence shows the camera approach the vast island from a very far away perspective then gradually gets closer and closer until we have met with one of the detectives this has been implemented so the audience can see how big the island is compared to one single human being.
I shot reverse shot shows the facial expression is of each detective and exactly how easy they both feel under the nervousness of being on an island surrounded by police man giving the impression something absolutely major has happened on this remote place. As well as this they travel there on the ship making it the only way to escape.
